Financing

The Graduate Program is funded by international (Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Coimbra Group), national (CAPES, CNPq, FINEP), state (FAPERJ), and local (Proppi/UFF; PROAS/UFF and Niterói City Hall) research funding agencies. Our professors usually apply for public notices at these institutions to finance their research projects and to obtain several types of scholarships, such as master’s, doctorate, post-doctorate, sandwich doctorate, scientific initiation, and technical support scholarships.

Rio de Janeiro State Research Support FoundationFAPERJ

FAPERJ has an annual calendar to receive proposals for distinct types of grants, including:

APQ1 – Research Grant; APQ 2 – Grant for the Organization of Scientific Events; Grant for Participation in Scientific Meetings, Grant for Visiting Researchers, Grant for Newly Hired Researchers (ARC); Grant for Technological Development and Innovation (ADT-1) and Scientific Initiation Grants

In addition to the aid described above, we also have specific notices, such as the following: Support Program for Centers of Excellence – Pronex; Bolsa Nota 10 Program; Scientist of Our State; Young Scientist of Our State; Pensa Rio – Support for the study of relevant and strategic themes for the State of Rio de Janeiro; Support for educational and research institutions based in the State of Rio de Janeiro; Support for emerging research centers in the State of Rio de Janeiro; Infrastructure of vivaria in educational and research institutions based in the State of Rio de Janeiro; Support for the study of neglected and reemerging diseases; Maintenance of Multi-User Equipment; Support for the acquisition of large equipment for higher education and research institutions based in the State of Rio de Janeiro; Extension and Research Projects – EXTPESQ; Prioridade Rio; Technical Training and Qualification (TCT).

Brazilian Council for Scientific and Technological DevelopmentCNPQ

Every year, CNPq opens calls for proposals to grant funding for research projects, as well as for granting scholarships. Among the various available Notices, we have the Universal Notice, which covers several areas of knowledge. As for scholarships, we have annual or even biannual notices for the awarding of Research Productivity Scholarships and Post-doctoral Scholarships for Young People and Seniors in Brazil and Abroad. Also, for sandwich doctoral scholarships.

Study and Project Financing AgencyFINEP The Study and Project Financing Agency (FINEP) is a Brazilian public company that promotes science, technology and innovation in companies, universities, technological institutes and other public or private institutions. It is a company linked to the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation. FINEP is an organization whose objective is to financially support technology development, innovation, and R&D projects. It has a wide range of reimbursable financing lines (ordinary loans with interest subsidized by the government), as well as non-reimbursable financing programs, whose technical name is subsidy. In recent years, our teachers have participated or even coordinated projects in different available Notices. Among which we highlight the approval of the subproject “LabCV-UFF – Expansion and development of multi-user laboratory infrastructure in the area of Life Sciences” in the Research Infrastructure Notice – PROINFRA 2023.
