The subject will cover the following topics in theoretical and practical terms: Applications of epidemiology in veterinary medicine and public health. Health-disease concept and epidemiological triad. Frequency measures and health indicators. Spatial and temporal distribution of diseases. Sampling in epidemiology. Epidemiological investigation. Risk analysis. Construction of epidemiological questionnaire and database. Presentation and analysis of qualitative and quantitative variables in epidemiology. Presentation and interpretation of data in temporal analyses. Use of sampling techniques in different epidemiological scenarios. Risk analysis and interpretation tools. Discussion of scientific articles, with emphasis on the presentation of epidemiological data.

Deficiency and metabolic diseases in production animals
Studies of the main diseases caused by mineral deficiencies, as well as imbalances and excesses: Deficiencies of Ca, P, Mg, Na, and Cl, Fe, I, Cu, Co, Zn, Mn, and Se, poisonings by I, Cu, Co, and Se. Study of calving hypocalcemia and grass tetany in cows’ pasture. Study of the main hypo- and hypervitaminosis. Study of metabolic disorders: bovine acetonemia, pregnancy toxemia in sheep, and fat cow syndrome. Study of the ruminal acidosis complex (includes reduced milk fat, polioencephalomalacia, laminitis, liver abscesses, displacement of the abomasum, ruminitis parakeratotic) and alkalosis.

Fundamentals of Entrepreneurship. Entrepreneurship, economic development, and innovation. The importance of innovation for nations, companies, and individuals. Influence of social and cultural aspects and the role of the State in the entrepreneurial environment. Entrepreneurship as an option in any career chosen by the student. Patents and regulations. Incubators, accelerators, and investors. The role of entrepreneurship in the management of the Veterinary Medicine career. Development of entrepreneurial logic, attitudes, capabilities, and skills. Management of new businesses, projects, and actions, with an emphasis on Veterinary Medicine. In this way, the discipline aims to help the student in the construction of entrepreneurial logic that will be applied in veterinary medicine, with an emphasis on clinical and animal reproduction, both in the entrepreneurial process and in career management. Help students understand the role of innovation in an entrepreneurial context. It also seeks to prepare students for the challenges of creating a product or service, highlighting the importance of patents, as well as the creation and management of a business, teaching how to prepare a business plan with its constituent elements.

Teaching Internship
Allow students to participate in teaching activities in the Veterinary Medicine Undergraduate Course at the Fluminense Federal University. These activities are guided by the professors of the Graduate Program and include activities to prepare expository and practical classes.
